    In winter vacation, I came back my hometown, Nagano and I had a good time there. I worked a part-time job in a local hotel. I was little tired, but I earned some money, so I was happy. On New Year’s Eve, I went to friend’s house and I greeted the New Year with junior high school friends. I met them after a long separation. So, I enjoyed talking with them very much. On January 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd I watched long-distance relay race on TV. It was very exciting!! Some teams come to my hometown for high-altitude training in summer. I cheered them in front of TV. I think they showed their ability. And I respect them because they can run long distance. I want to try to run long distance some day. I enjoyed winter vacation very much!!

     Every year, on January 2^nd and 3^rd, I watch Hakone Ekiden on TV. I feel the New Year when I watch it. If I don’t go back my hometown I want to go and see Hakone Ekiden. And I want to pay a New Year’s visit to a shrine. If I come back my hometown I’m going to work a part-time job. Winter vacation is too short but I want to earn much money.

I hope that I can get a lot of New Year’s gift!!

     There are single-sex schools and co-educational schools. Each has advantages. In single-sex schools, you have a lot in common with classmates. Your conversation topics, value system and ways of thinking are similar. You can talk freely in class. Also, you can concentrate on study, club activities and so on. In contrast, you will encounter more ways of thinking in co-educational schools. You will learn how to talk with, how to treat and how to cooperate with the opposite sex. There are some of differences between single-sex schools and co-educational schools. We should carefully consider the merits and demerits of each when we choose schools.

     I’ll introduce about Shichi-Go-San. Shichi-Go-San is traditional event for three and seven year-old girls and five year-old boys. Children wear traditional kimono for this day and visit shrines with their parents to pray for good luck and good health. It held annually on November 15. The ages, three, five and seven are consistent with Japanese numerology, which dictates that odd numbers are lucky.

     Children also have special long and thin candy, called Chitoseame on that day. The color of this is red and white. It is said that these colors are auspicious. It is too long, so it takes many time to eat whole candy.

     Hello, my name is Yuri Arai. I am 19 years old and I am a student at Kanagawa Prefectural College of Foreign Studies. I am studying English there. This college is in Kanagawa Prefecture and I’m from Nagano Prefecture. Do you know Nagano Prefecture? Olympic Winter Games in 1998 was held there. Nagano Prefecture is very cold and my hometown is about 1200 meters above the sea level. A few days ago, my hometown had light snow. I want to ski!

     Sometimes teachers tell students to swap their papers because they want to know the result of a quiz quickly. This paper swapping is in popular. However, there are proponents and opponents with regard to this issue. Proponents are mostly teachers. They think that it is the quickest way to check students’ results and teachers can save time. Proponents say this practice stimulate students. On the other hand, opponents think teachers should protect students’ privacy. There are some students who don’t want their classmates to know own results. Thus, there are merits and demerits with this issue. You should be careful in deciding which stance to choose.

     Many people say young children should have a cell phone. That may be true, but my opinion is different. I think young children don’t need have a cell phone. I have some reasons. First, sometimes children are implicated in a crime through cell phone site. Some people say, we should make a rule, but maybe most of children don’t follow a rule. Second, if children go to outside, they should tell their parents where I going to. Then parents can know where their children are. Finally, most of parents let their children have a cell phone to taking private lessons safety measures, but parents need to know when private lessons will finish and pick them up. In conclusion, it is unnecessary for children to have a cell phone.

 

     I feel stress when disagreeable thing happen to me. I think the best way of getting rid of stress is sleeping! I always forget stress after sleep and sleeping is good for health. So if you feel stress, you should sleep!

     Human beings have the ability to learn. Then do dogs have this ability? To answer this question, Pavlov performed an interesting experiment using his dog. In the experiment, a bell was rung whenever food is put before the dog. Pavlov repeated this experiment several weeks. One day, after several weeks, a bell was rung, but food wasn’t put before the dog. A bell is rung, however, the dog started to salivating. When a bell was rung, the dog thought it is dinner time. The results clearly show that dogs have the ability to learn.

     When I was junior high school student, I knew this song. I borrowed a CD from my sister and this song was programmed in the CD. I listened to this song many times without the lyrics. After that I listened to the song reading the lyrics. This song’s lyrics was written about ‘peace’. At that time I think that I want many people to listen to this song because I think the World need peace. So I like this song and I recommend this song.
